Congratulations to recent graduate Sneha Jariwala on being awarded the 2021 Dean’s Award and the 2021 Chancellor Award for outstanding research!
This year’s competition yielded over 100 projects and Sneha’s project was one of the top 3 chosen by the Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) division to receive this distinguished award.
Sneha received her Bachelor of Science (BS) in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) in the Division of Physical & Biological Sciences (UC Santa Cruz Science) in 2021 and worked with the UCSC Treehouse Childhood Initiative team to analyze subtypes of pediatric high-risk leukemia using gene expression analysis.

We want to express our gratitude and congratulate all the participants in our 2020 St. Baldrick’s #BraveTheShave event, raising funds to conquer kids cancer! This year, we had five brave shavees — four of whom shaved live, on camera — amazing! And we exceeded our fundraising goal, raising over $10,000 for pediatric cancer research! We are so, so, so grateful to everyone who contributed!!!

We are thrilled to announce that Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation has awarded Sneha Jariwala and Treehouse a Pediatric Oncology Student Training (POST) grant worth $5,000. Sneha Jariwala is a Treehouse undergraduate researcher studying molecular, cellular, and developmental biology who co-leads the University of California, Santa Cruz chapter of Colleges Against Cancer. Sneha now has the opportunity to spend the summer working with genomics analysis to fight kids’ cancer. Sneha Jariwala, a member of the Class of 2021, will use these funds to complete our project, “Comparative gene expression analysis of pediatric leukemias.”

Members of our Treehouse team and Colleges Against Cancer at UC Santa Cruz helped raise money last weekend to support the families at Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services, by volunteering during the Santa Cruz Warriors basketball game. Our volunteer team wore Hoops for Heart T-shirts and superhero capes as they sold bags to fans for the third- quarter ball toss. The “net” result?: We had a record-breaking evening and made $1055.00 for Jacob’s Heart kids!

Our Treehouse team members helped raise money to support the families at Jacob’s Heart, by volunteering during the Santa Cruz Warriors basketball game. Our members wore Hoops for Heart t-shirts and superhero capes as they sold bags of balls for the third-quarter ball toss. We had a record-breaking evening and made $1001.11!!! We sold every ball in the place! Thank you to everyone who helped support this great event.
